☆ An antidote to the poison... and a message from our President // November 16, 2016

Dear Culture-lovers,

As lovers of music, food, art, science, technology and ideas, we are a diverse group, with tastes that are as eclectic as our opinions are wide. But we share common decency, in that we’re inclusive. We love our fellow humans, in every variety, as equals.

If you're on my mailing list and are a fan of my music, books, or the art I create, I'm going to assume you share these basic core values; if you don't, kindly go crawl under a rock.

I won't passively accept evil.

It's the job of musicians and writers to shine a light, and as an artist, it's natural to start to share the gentle encouragement and hope as I plan to continue to do as we walk through this darkness together. Every night the sound of helicopters vibrates above us here in Manhattan, protecting an unpopular demagogue in his gold-plated tower, while here below we make sounds of beauty, our voices in unison, a conscious chorus.

While some are comfortable to be muted at this time, I am not. It’s our duty to speak up. To be heard.

I'm creating beautiful things, inspiring things, glued together with hope, truth, reason, and light. I refuse to feel powerless, or to normalize the toxicity of a white supremacist. We have work to do... *rolls up sleeves*

We all know that Trump is a fraud. He's a misogynist, a bigot, a fascist, a liar, a climate-science denier, an ego-maniac, and a crook. And he is powerful. But we are many, and together, we can do this. We are the future...

Artists and their audiences are powerful. Music and food are a part of diversity, and are incredibly exciting. They form bodies and minds, cell by emotion by thought. I'm diving deep into this beauty, because it's an antidote to the poisons in our beloved country. And because our community is so incredibly diverse and breathtakingly beautiful.

Expect an antidote. Demand an antidote. Be an antidote to the toxicity, the poison that is spewing this nightmare.

Expect more beauty. Be a part of it... that's diversity.

Here's the most recent thing we did. It’s about deep inner Happiness.

It couldn't have been created in any other time or place, and is totally reliant on inclusiveness, from the immigrant workers who picked the crops we ate, to the gay artist who took the photo of my own olive skin. Hearing, sight, taste, smell, touch, technology, neuroscience, from the perspective of deep space, via all five of our senses.

As the cosmologist Professor Stephen Hawking said recently:

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

And now, a private message from President Obama, in his own words, that came via a conference call attended by an aide, as shared by my publicist.

Our President said:

★ Your President feels your pain.
★ Surprising losses are worse than the ones you see coming.
★ Progress doesn't always follow a straight line.
★ I'm giving you a whole week and a half to get over this. But come Thanksgiving, it's time to stop moping - and start organizing.
★ I'm constrained in what I can do until I'm a private citizen.
★ But come February (maybe a little later after a vacation), Michelle and I will be right there with you.
★ In the meantime, stay involved locally.
★ I'm still fired up and I'm still ready to go!

Feel free to share these encouraging words. You may disagree with some of his actions (TPP wasn't his finest moment) but Barack is a powerful ally going forward, after he becomes free to speak. And his words are full of light...

This week was dark, and Thanksgiving promises to be a difficult time at many family tables, but after Thanksgiving, we're going to do as he suggests.

We're going to unite against oppression, misogyny, xenophobia, and fascism in all its disgusting forms. We're going to collaborate with creative people of every color, gender, place of birth, orientation, religion, physicality, and class.

Personally, I can't think of anything more inspiring than collaborating with all of the wonderful people in our community, in all our diversity.

Excited you'll be with us, tuning in to our loving kindness channel instead of listening to the abrasive insult that's going to be thrown around over the next four years. More nations darkening, deepening fascism, destruction. No denial. Eyes open.

But a broader mission for all of us passionate about equality and inclusiveness, wherever we are, active and engaged. Balanced, healthy, strong, gentle, kind... and active.

Vive la Résistance!

YNTEGRITY: DIVERSITY    November 4th, 2016

Conscious Constellation presents 'YNTEGRITY : DIVERSITY' an immersive cross-modal seven-part experience for all five senses, taking place on November 4th, 2016 at a secret private location in Chinatown, NYC

Music, food and psychology will be utilised with deeply innovative methods to create an immersive experience that's rich in data, insights and beauty, and is part art / part science experiment.

Music will be created in real-time as well as via a careful curation process of recordings that influence the tastes. The intimate meal will be enjoyed while participants are immersed in these sensory pleasures, comprising clean, plant-based, organic ingredients, and featuring heirloom single-estate raw cacao, electrolyzed 24 karat gold, and locally sourced foods of exceptional provenance.

As they dine and converse, Conscious Constellation musicians and actors will interact with guests to guide the conversation around the subject of diversity. Music, food and psychology will unite for a crossmodal immersive sensory experience for all five senses, with each guest’s understanding of the beauty of diversity deepened and elevated by stimulating neurochemicals in the brain via all five senses in tandem.

Hearing, Taste, Sight, Smell, and Touch will be triggered together to explore Diversity.

Conscious Constellation was founded by Ysanne Spevack, probably America's leading expert in crossmodal experience design. She is a highly accomplished music composer and conductor, celebrated chef and widely published author. Best known for working with The Smashing Pumpkins, Ysanne Spevack is a classically trained composer and conductor who has collaborated with Tilda Swinton, Laurie Anderson, Vanessa Beecroft, Peter Sellars, and Tiesto. Simultaneously, Ysanne has a 20+ year career as an author and private chef. Her books have been published by HarperCollins and Rizzoli, and clients include Whole Foods Market and William Shatner.

Building on her success in these two areas, Ysanne founded Conscious Constellation, a group that creates crossmodal immersive experiences called YNTEGRITY, with Ysanne's food and music at the heart of these explorations. The Conscious Constellation team includes thirty people from the diverse worlds of arts, science and technology.

Ysanne has composed and curated a richly diverse soundtrack for this experience, punctuated with seven artfully-prepared food / artworks, inspired by each of the seven continents.

Guests will enjoy provocative interactions with live performances peppered throughout the event, featuring acclaimed award-winning Shakespearean actress, Patrice Johnson Chevannes, and musician Treya.

This event has been commissioned by Ryan Drumwright of FRIPPN specifically to address the dearth of diversity in the advertising and marketing industries.

It is informed and inspired by the ground-breaking work of NYU neuroscientist Professor Denis Pelli, Oxford University experimental psychologist Professor Charles Spence, and Nottingham Trent University psychologist Harriet Smith, who is an expert in the crossover of voice and visual perception. The Portal draws on NLP ideas shared by UK psychotherapist Jonathan Goldsmith.

In order to participate, guests need to go through 'The Portal' - a series of questions presented as a playful and colorful artist’s statement. Insights gained from the answers will inform their customized experience, so this 20-minute task is mandatory for all participants, and is designed to be enjoyable and rewarding.

The goal of the event is to stimulate participants deeper understanding of the inspirational force of diversity, and to problem-solve how to make the advertising and marketing industries reflective of the diversity of our society as a whole, thereby enabling them to effectively communicate with the population they need to reach, as well as simply to be aligned with the benefit of all.

Music correlates with color, each triggering experiences of diversity. Likewise, taste, smell and touch are expertly utilized for all five senses, combining them to become one interwoven experience of diversity.

Partial proceeds from the event will benefit Still Waters In A Storm, a one-room schoolhouse that's a reading and writing sanctuary for children in Bushwick, Brooklyn, a diverse working class neighborhood with roughly 40% of the community foreign-born. Still Waters In A Storm meetings are held in English, Spanish, Latin and Musical Notation: children and adults study a text together, write something inspired by the text, then take turns reading their response out loud while everyone listens in a sacred hush. Everyone listens to everyone. The simple grace of this ritual changes lives for the better.

“New Yorkers love music, food, art, science, technology and groundbreaking ideas; I can’t think of a better time and place to explore my immersive and cross-modal experiences,” said Ysanne. “I’m excited our esteemed participants from the creative industries are joining us, and grateful that we'll make it a personal, passionate mission to achieve diversity in the creative industries,” she added.

Guests attending the groundbreaking event agree to fully participate in the evening’s activities, including being consciously touched, and having their reactions monitored. Prior to the event, attendees will be asked a series of brief psychological questions to deepen their ability to tap into the happiness experience. This is known as going through The Portal.

Tickets for the intimate dinner are $100 per person and are first-come, first-served. Space is very limited, and the event is expected to sell out within an hour of going live to a select group of leading members of the advertising and marketing industry, personally invited by Ryan Drumwright.

CACAO IN E MAJOR: AN IMMERSIVE FEAST OF CHOCOLATE SYNESTHESIA IN 5 VERSES FOR 5 SENSES

Ysanne’s YNTEGRITY project presents 'Cacao in E Major,' an immersive five-course feast in five verses for five senses to take place at 7 p.m. on September 22, 2016 at The Alchemist’s Kitchen in the Bowery, NYC.

Cutting edge technology, neuroscience and psychology will be utilised with deeply innovative methods to create an immersive experience that's rich in data, insights and hard evidence, and is part art / part science experiment.

The intimate meal will comprise of clean, plant-based, organic ingredients featuring heirloom single-estate raw cacao, electrolyzed 24 karat gold, and locally sourced foods of exceptional provenance.

As they dine on gastronomic delights, Ysanne’s choir, The Conscious Chorus, will interact with the guests while singing. Hearing, Taste, Sight, Smell, and Touch will be triggered together to explore Happiness.

In addition to Ysanne’s musical compositions, there will be a unique opportunity to hear a classic unreleased song by Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins).

Furthermore, on the eve of the release date, The Conscious Chorus will sing a remote mash-up of the first single from Shepard Fairey’s new band, NØISE. The project features a remix by Fairey's long-time friend Moby.

These collaborations continue Billy Corgan and Shepard Fairey’s long-standing legacies of music and art for good, and collaborator Moby’s equal history of making the world a better place.
